Our Day

Our Curriculum

Intent

Ready Teddy Go is a safe and nurturing environment where each individual is a valued member of our community. Children’s interests and curiosities are explored and celebrated, leading them to become confident, secure and happy to reach their own unique potentials. Emphasis is placed on children learning through play. The nursery is a learning community where teachers build strong relationships with children. Our high adult to child ratios support our relationship based approach. Teachers reflect and respond promptly to children’s developmental needs and characteristics, creating an emergent curriculum that sparks interest and a natural love of and excitement for learning.

We believe all children are creative. Children are supported with opportunities to express themselves in many different ways, including through music, dance, drama and the arts with optional sessions each morning. Our wider community enhances our experience rich curriculum. Children are given opportunities to learn through real world interactions and environmental learning experiences both inside and outside of the nursery. Our location within a church in the centre of town offers a wealth of opportunities to explore and celebrate with our ever growing community. Parents and Carers benefit from accessible workshops focussed on providing holistic support for children and families.

Implementation

Our high adult ratios give time for children to be nurtured as they settle into nursery life. Teachers reflect together as they strive to provide a wealth of opportunities for children to thrive at nursery through an emergent curriculum. Children decide what they want to learn. Our teachers observe and listen to children, talk to parents and carers and regularly research and train themselves to support children to explore their interests as they learn and develop alongside the early years foundation stage curriculum. Our skilled and experienced team support children to build relationships with their peers, strengthening communication and social skills as they explore the world around them together through experiences, children’s achievements are celebrated wholesomely, inspiring others to share their ‘Magic’. We are kind, We listen to each other, We try our best, We look after our nursery, We stay safe.

An enabling environment is provided with carefully selected resources for children to explore and build new skills together. A culture of collaboration encourages children to inspire each other, enabling children of different ages to learn through empathy and consideration. Children can work on projects, grown from emerging interests and expanded through teacher’s plans and provocations, as well as being impacted by the ideas of their peers. Cultural capital is reflected upon, providing ideas for new experiences and opportunities for all children. Our small classroom is used for nurture groups. Children’s emerging needs are identified and promptly supported through small group work. Teachers engage with primary school teachers and other professionals to tailor support to best meet the needs of each child.

Mealtimes are shared together and cherished as time to socialise and enjoy each other’s company. Teachers and children sit together and share news and thoughts. We use our kitchen for cooking and baking sessions. The Family Centre offers opportunities for children and parents to cook, learn and enjoy meals together.

Children engage within the wider community. Intergenerational experiences are provided for children to enjoy music, crafts and seasonal events. Children learn to cook together with peers and parents. Our Lunch Clubs go out into town to learn about the world through first hand experiences. We visit shops and local areas of interest to engage with an learn through our community. We visit our local park often to interact with nature, observing the wonders that each season brings. Our nursery offers a village, Parents, Carers and children are supported within a safe and friendly environment.

Our Curriculum and The EYFS Statutory Guidance

Overarching principles

Four guiding principles should shape practice in early years.

These are:

- Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured.

- Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

- Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time.

- Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.

- Importance of learning and development. Children develop and learn at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children, including children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The seven areas of learning

Personal, Social & Emotional development, Physical development, Communication & Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world, Expressive art and design.

Impact

Through nurture, children grow confident to try new experiences, to experiment and take risks with their own ideas. Rich opportunities and relationships foster children's self-esteem, to develop understanding and skills across all areas, which establish a lifelong love for learning. Children leave Ready Teddy Go equipped and ready to start their primary school journey with both themselves and their whole families being valued, respected and responsible members of our ever growing local community.
